Introduction of colorants

Colorants are mainly divided into two types: pigments and dyes. Pigments can be divided into organic pigments and inorganic pigments according to their structure. Dyes are organic compounds that can be used in most solvents and dyed plastics, with advantages such as low density, high coloring power, and good transparency. However, their general molecular structure is small and migration is prone to occur during coloring.

pigments

Colorants can be broadly divided into pigments and dyes. Pigments are substances that give materials color by selectively absorbing and reflecting light. They can be further divided into organic pigments (derived from carbon-based compounds) and inorganic pigments (synthesized from minerals). Dyes, on the other hand, are organic compounds that are soluble in solvents and can be used to color a variety of materials, including plastics. They have the advantages of low density, high tinting power, and good transparency. However, due to their smaller molecular size, dyes tend to migrate or bleed out of the materials they are coated on, especially under certain environmental conditions, such as high temperatures or exposure to certain chemicals.

According to the analysis of psychologists, 83% of the impression that people receive from the outside world is based on their senses which comes from visual perception. It can be seen that the importance of product appearance, especially the color of product appearance, is particularly important. In terms of feed products, whether users use a certain feed product or not, the appearance color of the feed plays a crucial determining role.

The application of colorants are increasingly common in modern feed industry and animal husbandry and aquaculture. There are two reason as follows: firstly, to change the color of feed through colorants. Especially in the increasing use of non-traditional feed ingredients, adding colorants to mask the negative colors of certain non-traditional feed ingredients (such as rapeseed meal), so as to cater to user psychological habits, and increase market competitiveness. At the same time, it also plays a role in stimulating appetite and inducing food intake. The colorants that play this role can be referred to as feed colorants.
